A new president elected to the Foundation's Scientific Council

The team of the Rare Diseases Foundation, the members of the Boards and Committees, are pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Emeritus Jacques S. Beckmann as Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Foundation. Beckmann, as President of the Scientific Council of the Foundation.

Biography
From 2013 to 2016, creator and head of the clinical bioinformatics unit of the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. From 2003 to 2012, he directed the Department and Service of Medical Genetics at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the University Hospital of Vaud (CHUV). He started working in the field of human genetics in 1990, first at the CEPH, then at Genethon (Evry), and finally participated in the creation of the National Genotyping Center of Evry, of which he was deputy director, before joining the Department of Molecular Genetics of the Weizmann Institute of Science, in Rehovot, as a professor in 2000.

He has made significant contributions to the development of genetic, physical and gene maps of the human genome, as well as the identification of genes involved in LGMD, diabetes and other diseases. His recent research has focused on genomic disorders and the genetic basis of complex traits. He is the author of more than 400 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals (H ISI index of 108) and serves or has served on the editorial boards of several scientific journals as well as on the scientific boards of various international committees. In Switzerland, he contributed to the implementation of the national personalized health program.
