In the framework of the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP RD), the innovative call "Rare Diseases Research (RDR) Challenges" aims at facilitating and funding collaboration between industry, academia, SMEs and patient organizations to solve specific research problems in the field of rare diseases.
Following the evaluation of the applications received, three projects were selected, 70% of which are co-financed by the European Community and 30% by one or two industrial sponsors.
Challenge #4 concerns the development of a pre-clinical assay to detect instability of microsatellite repeat expansions and the winning project of Challenge #4, whose acronym is TRXassay, is entitled "Development and validation of a novel pre-clinical assay to detect triplet repeat expansions" led by Prof. Bob Lahue of the National University of Ireland Galway and with the support of industrial sponsor LoQus 23 (https://loqus23.com)
