Death of Professor Jean-Jacques Cassiman

August 22, 2022 | News

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of our colleague and friend, and member for many years of the Board of Directors of the Foundation For Rare Diseases, Professor Jean-Jacques Cassiman.

Jean-Jacques Cassiman was a very appreciated member of this Council, for the relevance of his comments and suggestions, testifying of his experience in Belgium and at the European level, in particular in the field of laboratory activities in genetics, for the diagnosis and understanding of pathologies, first in onco-hematology and then in the fields of monogenic diseases, including cystic fibrosis. He has been a driving force in the development of quality control in the field of genetic diagnosis at the European level.

We have also greatly appreciated, over the years, his human warmth and his discreet humor, and his encouragement for the development of the Foundation's activities. His advice has always been most relevant and beneficial to the Foundation.

On behalf of all the members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation For Rare Diseases, we would like to express our deepest sympathy to his family at this painful time.
